It originates from the Czech Republic and contains an alcoholic content of 38%.

Origin of Becherovka

Becherovka was first produced in 1807 by Josef Becher, who was a pharmacist in the northern Bohemian town of Karlovy Vary, under a secret recipe. The recipe for this mysterious alcoholic beverage is a closely guarded secret known to only two people in the factory that produces Becherovka. Prince Maximilian Friedrich von Plettenberg came to Carlsbad in 1805 to cure an ailment. He was accompanied by his personal physician, Dr. Christian Frobrig, who was a friend of Josef Becher. At the time of his departure he gave him as a gift a new and revolutionary liqueur recipe, Becher tested the recipe many times during two years and in 1807 as its sale under the name of English Bitter, which was destined to cure stomach diseases.

by the middle of the 19th century, Dr. Becher’s family began importing Becherovka, reaching countries such as Spain, Turkey and Egypt during the Second World War. In 1934, after the end of alcohol prohibition, it conquered the United States and four years later England.

Becherovka was one of the most popular export products of socialist Czechoslovakia, and since then it has remained in production, and like all great liquors, it has gone through high moments and low moments, however today it still maintains its quality and status.

what is Becherovka made of?

Becherovka is made from Carlsbad water, high quality liqueurs, natural sugar and a selection of 32 herbs and seasonings that bring a natural harmony to the blend. This Czech liqueur stands out thanks to its bitter taste, which ends up being very pleasant, which is why it is part of the preferences of thousands of people inside and outside the Czech Republic who taste this natural delicacy.

How to make becherovka, the secret recipe

The becherovka recipe is a secret, it is only known by two people who are in charge of the elaboration process. Its composition is constituted by 32 herbs, which are delicately chosen according to the secret recipe. These herbs go from the jute back to the tank containers where alcohol is poured over them.

Then the mixture goes through a process of hot maceration, in which the product is softened, once the process is completed, the product obtained is left to cool. The herbal mixture is placed in tanks, where it is poured over turpentine, here a process known as digestion occurs where the herbs are macerated in a heating method and then allowed to cool.

The freshly prepared yeast goes into shaking vats, where the secret recipe, sugar melt, water and other ingredients are added. The semi-product is left in the vats where it matures for several weeks. The matured concentrate is combined with the last remaining ingredients and then filtered twice, which gives clarity to the becherovka and proceeds to refrigeration.

How to drink Becherovka to enjoy its qualities

Becherovka has an organic but rich flavor that makes it perfect to be drunk on its own as well as to combine with other ingredients in the preparation of delicious cocktails. It is usually consumed alone chilled; those who prefer it in combination usually mix it with other liquors, juices and sodas that enhance its natural qualities due to the combination of herbs with which it is made.

+4 Becherovka cocktail recipes that will leave you breathless

Becherovka is a bitter-tasting liqueur of Czech origin that has a great number of followers, its secret recipe makes it an elixir full of mystery and flavor.

Beton

It is one of the best known and most loved cocktails with becherovka, its mixture of ingredients makes it a delight that seduces the palate. Ingredients what ingredients are needed to prepare a Beton?
